If you've ever stood in the yarn aisle wondering which plush yarn is the better choice, you're not alone. Two of my favorites are Premier Parfait Chunky and Yarn Bee Cozy Occasion from Hobby Lobby. While both are wonderfully soft, they create noticeably different finished projects.
Recently, I crocheted my Goose Creek Handbag in both yarns using the exact same pattern. The results made the differences easy to see.
Same Pattern, Different Results

Gray Handbag
Premier Parfait Chunky
White Handbag
Yarn Bee Cozy Occasion
Even though both bags were made from the same pattern, the white handbag is noticeably larger.
Premier Parfait Chunky
Premier Parfait Chunky is one of my favorite yarns for making stuffed animals.
Pros
- Extremely soft
- Excellent stitch definition
- Creates beautifully squishy plushies
- Works well for small and medium-sized amigurumi
- Great color selection
Best Uses
- Stuffed animals
- Plush toys
- Baby gifts
- Decorative amigurumi
Because the yarn is slightly finer, finished projects are generally a bit smaller while still remaining wonderfully soft.
Yarn Bee Cozy Occasion
Yarn Bee Cozy Occasion behaves more like a blanket yarn.
In fact, it reminds me quite a bit of Bernat Baby Blanket—soft, plush, and a little bulkier than Premier Parfait Chunky.
That extra thickness gives finished projects more structure.
Pros
- Slightly thicker yarn
- Creates larger finished projects
- Adds more body and stability
- Excellent for items that need to hold their shape
Best Uses
- Handbags
- Tote bags
- Blankets
- Pillows
- Larger plush projects
For my Goose Creek Handbag, Cozy Occasion produced a bag that felt sturdier and roomier without changing the pattern at all.

Neither yarn is "better." They simply shine in different types of projects.
