Valentina the Dancing Ballerina

A Short Attic Story

Morning light slipped quietly through the attic window, stretching across the wooden floor and warming the round rug below. Dust sparkled in the air like tiny stars.

Near the center of the room, Valentina stood very still.

She lifted her arms slowly, just like she had practiced before. One foot pointed, the other steady. The attic was quiet except for the soft creak of the floor beneath her slippers.

Valentina loved this part best — when no one was watching and she could move at her own pace.

She tried a gentle twirl, careful not to spin too fast. Her skirt fluttered, and she smiled, even though she stumbled just a little at the end.

“That’s okay,” she whispered to herself.

She tried again.

This time, she remembered to breathe.

Near the old wooden chest, a ball of yarn rested beside her practice space, watching as patiently as the sunlight. Valentina dipped into a small curtsy, then stood tall once more.

She didn’t need to be perfect today.
She only needed to practice.

When the light began to fade and the attic grew quiet again, Valentina lowered her arms and gave one last bow to the empty room.

Tomorrow, she would practice again.
