A New Year in the Attic: Stories, Slower Rhythms, and What’s Ahead

As the calendar turns and a new year begins, the Attic feels calm and full of quiet promise. Not the loud, confetti kind of promise — but the gentle kind that comes from pausing, reflecting, and choosing what matters most.

This time of year always invites reflection, and this year feels especially thoughtful.

Here in the Attic, life has already reminded me that flexibility is part of the journey. Nana’s car is currently in the shop, which has slowed things down more than expected. Instead of fighting that pause, I’m choosing to lean into it. Sometimes those unexpected moments are gentle nudges to move a little slower and listen more closely.

As I look ahead to the year, I’ve been thinking deeply about how I want the Attic to feel — not just for me, but for everyone who steps inside.

A Shift Toward Slower, More Intentional Creating

One of the biggest questions I’ve been sitting with is whether to continue doing craft shows. For now, I’m leaning toward not doing them this year.

That doesn’t mean less creating — it means different creating.

More time for:

  • Thoughtful stitching
  • Storytelling
  • Designing pieces and printables that last beyond a single season
  • Sharing the Attic in ways that feel calm instead of rushed
  • This may evolve as the year unfolds, but for now, this quieter rhythm feels right.

Stories Have a New Home in the Attic

Stories have always been at the heart of Nana’s Attic — and that isn’t changing.

What is changing is how those stories are shared.

Over time, the stories grew into more than just something to read. They became moments — paired with coloring pages, activities, and little extras meant to invite children (and adults) to slow down and imagine.

That growth naturally led to the creation of the Attic Storybook Club.

🌟 What Is the Attic Storybook Club?

The Storybook Club is a cozy monthly experience created for families who love screen-free moments rooted in imagination and calm.

Each month includes:

  • A printable Attic story
  • A matching coloring page
  • A bonus screen-free activity, like a maze or simple game

Everything is designed to be printed, shared, and enjoyed at your own pace.

A Gentle Transition (and One Last Free Story)

I want to be very transparent as we move forward.

Next week, I’ll be sharing the final storybook that’s free to download before stories officially move into the Storybook Club.

After that:

  • New stories
  • Coloring pages
  • Bonus activities

will be available through the Club.

This transition allows the stories to be nurtured and sustained in a way that honors the time, care, and creativity that goes into each one.

🧶 Maker’s Corner: Tools I Reach For in the Attic

One question I hear often is “What do you actually use when you’re creating?”
So this year, I’m opening the Attic door a little wider and sharing the tools that support my stitching day after day — not trends, just what works for me.

🧵 My Yarn Choice

This super bulky yarn from Premier Yarns is one I consistently reach for when I want softness, structure, and that cozy finished look. It’s comfortable to work with and holds up beautifully in finished pieces.

🪝 My Go-To Crochet Hook

Comfort matters — especially during long stitching sessions. This is the hook I reach for every single day because it feels good in my hand and gives me consistent results.

✂️ Templates Created by a Maker, for Makers

Over time, I’ve created templates that simplify the behind-the-scenes work — the little details that help handmade businesses feel polished without starting from scratch every time.

Growing the Attic Thoughtfully

This year feels less about doing more — and more about doing what matters well.

Stories.
Thoughtful creation.
Gentle rhythms.
And a community that values warmth over noise.

Thank you for being part of the Attic — whether you’re here for the stories, the stitches, or simply a quiet corner of the internet that feels like home.

Blessings from the Attic,
Nana Dawn
