The Crochet Patterns Behind Our Safari Friends
Every safari friend in Nana’s Attic begins the same way — with yarn, imagination, and a whole lot of heart.
Over the years, many customers have asked where my designs come from. Today, I wanted to pull back the curtain and share the crochet patterns that inspired the Nana’s Attic Safari Collection. I believe strongly in honoring the talented designers who make this craft community so special, and I love sharing the creative journey behind each handmade piece.
Below you’ll find each Safari character, the pattern used as a base, and a little “from the Attic” note about how they became part of our cozy world.
🦁 Leo the Lion
Pattern Used: Tyrion the Lion (PDF Crochet Pattern)

From the Attic:
Leo the Lion was created using the Tyrion the Lion pattern as his foundation. I was drawn to the expressive mane and sturdy structure, then customized colors and finishing details to give Leo his gentle, brave Nana’s Attic personality. He’s become a favorite for children who need a little courage tucked under their arm.

Ginnie’s long neck and sweet expression come from this wonderful free pattern by Jess Huff. With soft yarn choices and Attic-style details, she became the tall, comforting friend who always seems to see the bigger picture.
🐯 Benny the Bengal

From the Attic:
Benny the Bengal started as a bold little tiger and quickly grew into one of the most expressive Safari friends. I used this free tiger pattern as the base, then adjusted colors and personality details to give Benny his playful, curious Nana’s Attic charm.
🐘 Ellie the Baby Elephant

From the Attic:
Ellie the Baby Elephant was inspired by a February 2018 mystery crochet-along from Amy’s Crochet Cave. This pattern remains freely available and was the perfect starting point for a sweet, huggable elephant full of softness and heart.
🐘 Josefina & Jeffery — Elephant Pillow
Pattern Used: Josefina and Jeffery — Elephant Pillow Crochet Pattern
Source: Etsy (affiliate link)

From the Attic:
For the Safari elephant pillows, I used the Josefina and Jeffery pattern as the foundation. With cozy textures and Nana’s Attic color styling, these elephant pillows became perfect companions for bedtime stories, quiet reading corners, and afternoon snuggles.
🦓 Coming Soon: The Zebra
The Safari Collection is still growing! I’m currently searching for (or designing) the right zebra pattern that fits the Nana’s Attic look and feel. Once our zebra joins the Attic, this post will be updated with full pattern credit and details — so be sure to check back.
🌿 A Note on Handmade & Pattern Credit
All Nana’s Attic Safari friends are handmade with care and respect for the original designers who inspire them. Patterns are used legally and thoughtfully, with customization, yarn choices, and finishing touches that make each Attic animal one-of-a-kind.
If you’re a crocheter yourself, I encourage you to explore these patterns and support the designers who share their creativity so generously.
And if you’re looking for a finished safari friend ready to come home, they’re waiting for you in the Attic.
