"Can You Tell Me About This?"

The attic door slowly creaked open.

Nana Dawn stepped inside, carrying a tiny purple baby hippo with bright eyes and the sweetest smile.

"I think you'll like it here," she whispered as she gently placed him on the old patchwork rug.

The attic was warm and cozy.

Sunlight streamed through the little window.

Baskets of colorful yarn rested beside old wooden trunks.

Books lined the shelves, and friendly faces smiled from every corner.

With one last wave, Nana Dawn quietly closed the attic door.

The little hippo looked around.

His eyes grew bigger and bigger.

"So many wonderful things..."

Then he smiled.

"Can you tell me about this?"

A Big World to Explore

The little hippo waddled over to a basket filled with colorful yarn.

"Can you tell me about this?" he asked.

Coral the Starfish Pillow smiled.

"That's yarn," she explained. "Nana Dawn uses it to crochet all of us."

Hugo's eyes sparkled.

"Really?"

"I didn't know that!"

Before long, something else caught his attention.

One Question After Another

Hugo wandered over to Benny the Bengal Tiger.

"Can you tell me about your stripes?"

Benny grinned.

"They're part of who I am."

Hugo smiled.

"I like them."

Next, he looked up at Leo.

"Can you tell me why your mane is so fluffy?"

Leo laughed warmly.

"It reminds me to be brave."

Hugo thought that was a wonderful answer.

Then Hopper Bunny twitched his long ears.

Hugo waddled over.

"Can you tell me how you hear such tiny sounds?"

"My ears help me listen carefully," Hopper said.

Hugo nodded.

"I'd like to be a good listener too."

Finally, he found Violet Woolsey quietly knitting.

"Can you tell me what you're making?"

Violet held up her needles with a smile.

"A warm scarf."

"Would you like to learn how to knit someday?"

"Oh, yes!" Hugo replied.

"I'd love to learn something new."

The Best Way to Learn

The attic friends couldn't help but smile.

Hugo wasn't asking questions because he wanted to interrupt.

He asked questions because he truly wanted to understand.

Every answer taught him something new.

And every question helped him get to know his new friends a little better.

As the afternoon sun filled the attic with a golden glow, Violet smiled.

"I think you'll fit in perfectly here."

Hugo beamed.

"I hope so."

Then his eyes wandered toward an old wooden trunk tucked beneath the window.

He tilted his head.

"Can you tell me what's inside that?"

Everyone laughed.

Somehow, they knew life in the attic had just become a little more interesting.

From that day on, whenever something new caught Hugo's eye, he would toddle over to one of his attic friends and ask,

"Can you tell me about this?"

And with every answer, Hugo discovered something new...

...about the attic...

...about his friends...

...and about the wonderful world around him.

Gentle Lesson for Little Readers

Asking questions is one of the best ways to learn.

Every time we wonder about something new, we discover something wonderful.

Never be afraid to ask,

"Can you tell me about this?"
