Forest Nut Doll

Remember, the size of your yarn, hook, as well as your tension will determine the finished size of your finished item. Please tag me in your post with your completed Buckeye, I would love to see it!
Materials Required
All instructions are applicable for any worsted weight yarn. You will need much less than 1 skein of yarn in each of 4 colors.
Suggested hook size: G hook/ 4.5 mm - Gauge is not necessary as the 4.5 mm hook makes for a 10“doll. If you want larger, use larger hook; if you want smaller, use smaller hook.
Yarn 4 weight worsted, Red Heart Super Saver = Dark Blue, Light Blue, Buff, Dark Brown
Two black 12mm Black safety eyes
White Felt small amount for eyes
Black Felt small amount for mouth
A bit of Black Yarn
Skill level: Intermediate
Abbreviations:
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
inc - increase
inv dec - invisible decrease
hdc - half double crochet
sl st - slip stitch st - stitch
MR – Magic Ring -Magic Circle
Yo – yarn over
Special Stitches
Invisible Inv decrease Stitch
Inv inv dec - single crochet 2 stitches together – use the invisible inv decrease so as not to leave a seam.
Insert hook into front loop of next two stitches, yo, pull through, and complete the stitch.
Pattern Notes
Doll is worked in rounds.
Leg One
With dark blue yarn, 4sc in a MR. 4 sc (round 1)
Round 2: (1sc, inc) 2 times 6 sc
Round 3: (2sc, inc) 2 times 8 sc
Rounds 4-8 sc around 8 sc
Round 9:(3sc, inc) 2 times. 10 sc Fasten off
Leg Two
With dark blue yarn, 4sc in a mr. 4 sc (round 1)
Round 2: (1sc, inc) 2 times. 6 sc
Round 3: (2sc, inc) 2 times 8 sc Rounds 4-8 sc around 8 sc
Round 9 (3sc, inc) 2 times. 10 sc
Join leg 1 & leg 2 together (still with dark blue yarn)
Round 1 of join: 3ch, 10sc on leg1, then 3sc across the ch 3, 10sc on leg 2. 26 sc
Round 2: sc around 26 sc
Round 3: 12sc, inc – 2 times 28 sc
Round 4: sc around 28 sc
Round 5: Change yarn to light blue. Sc around 28sc
Now you are working the mid-section of the body.
Round 6: sc 12, inv dec 1 around with light blue. Change to dark blue yarn 26 sc
Round 7: sc 11, inv dec 1 around with dark blue 24 sc
Round 8: sc around with dark blue. Change to light blue yarn after round 8. 24 sc
Round 9: sc around with light blue. 24 sc
Round 10: sc 10, inv dec 1 Crochet around with light blue. Change to dark blue yarn. 22 sc
Round 11: sc 9, inv dec 1, Crochet around with dark blue. 20 sc
Round 12: sc 8, inv dec 1, Crochet around with dark blue. Change to light blue yarn. 18 sc
Round 13: sc 7, inv dec 1, Crochet around with light blue. 16 sc.
Fasten Off leaving a 4-inch.
Stuff body firmly. Put to the side
ARMS (Make two)
With dark blue and 4.5 mm hook
Crochet 6 sc into a mr. change to light blue
Round 1: sc 6 light blue, change to dark blue
Round 2: sc 6, change to light blue
Round 3: sc 6, change to dark blue
Round 4: sc 6, change to light blue
Round 5: sc 6, change to dark blue
Round 6: sc 6, change to light blue
Round 7: sc 6, change to dark blue
Round 8: sc 6, change to light blue
Round 9: sc 6, change to dark blue
Round 10: Sc ONE row dark blue. Fasten off. Leave a long enough tail to sew arm at last row on the body, on either side (neckline). Match your arm rows with the body rows.
Head
Use Buff or light brown yarn for face, the first 8 rounds. Change yarn to dark brown for rest of head
With Buff color: Create mr, crochet 6 sc into circle
Round 1: 6 Inc 12sc
Round 2: 1 sc, 1inc around 18sc
Round 3: 2 sc, 1 inc around 24 sc
Round 4: 3 sc 1 inc around. 30 sc
Round 5: 4 sc, inc, 4 hdc, sc inc, 4 sc, inc, 4 sc inc, 4 hdc, sc inc, 4 sc, inc. 36 sc .
The hdc’s should be directly opposite each other. These are the widest part of the head.
Round 6: 5 sc, inc, 5 hdc, sc inc, 5 sc, inc, 5 sc, inc, 5 hdc, sc inc, 5 sc, inc. 42 sc
Round 7: 6 sc, inc, 6 hdc, sc inc, 6 sc, inc, 6 sc, inc, 6 hdc, sc inc, 6 sc, inc. 48 sc
Round 8: 7 sc, inc around, 54 sc
Join Dark Brown.
Round 9: 8 sc, inc around, 60 sc
Round 10: 9 sc, inc around, 66 sc
Round 11: sc around, 66 sc
Round 12: sc 9, inv dec, around, 60sc
Round 13: sc 8, inv dec, around 54 sc
Round 14: sc 7, inv dec around 48 sc
Round 15: sc 6 inv dec around 42 sc
Round 16: sc 5, inv dec around 36 sc
Round 17: sc 4, inv dec around 30 sc
Round 18: sc 3, inv dec around 24 sc
Round 19: sc 2, inv dec around – STUFF HEAD, try to make as flat as possible 18 sc
Round 20: sc, inv dec around 12 sc
Finish off. Weave end into the head.
NOSE
With Buff: Make a MR, crochet 6.
Round 1: inc around 12 SC
Round 2: sc, inc, 18sc
Round 3: sc, inv dec around 12 sc. Finish off. Sew or use glue to attach nose to center of head.
Mouth
With black felt cut a piece of felt in a half moon shape that will fit on the head from row 6 on the left side and round 6 on the opposite side, then down to bottom of row 7. See photo below
Eyes
With a small amount of white felt, cut into oval shape two eyes. Cut small slit in bottom center of felt and insert safety eyes, size 10 mm. Glue back of white and place as pictured above. Use a small bit of black yarn to make the eyebrows.

Ball Cap
With light blue yarn and hook, make a MR, 6 sc in ring.
2 sc in each sc around. 12 sc
2 sc, 1 inc around
1 sc in each around.
1 sl st in each around. Attach dark blue yarn
Sl St in first, SC in next, hdc in next, sc in next, sl st in next. Fasten off. Stitch or glue to top of head as pictured below.
Waist Towel
Chain 4
SC in each of three chains, turn repeat for two rows, next 2 rows, sc, hdc, sc; Finish off weave in ends. Stitch or glue to waist at the dark blue pants to light blue shirt on right side. See picture.

Leaves
Make three leaves
Chain 7 with green yarn
SC in 2nd chain from hook, hdc in next, dbl cr in next 2 chain, hdc in next, 3 sc in last chain.
Working on back of the chain, hdc on next, dbl cr in next two, hdc, sc in last.
Finish off weave in tails. Stitch or glue to neckline as in picture above.
Forest Nut
Make a small buckeye nut by making a chain 2 in buff, 4 SC in the first chain, change to dark brown and sc 2 in each sc in first row. Fasten off and attach in the area that the three-leaves meet.
